Tradies lose jobs to phone tag. The site had to close the sale itself.
A one-man building business has one bottleneck: the builder. Every missed call, every “I'll get back to you”, every quote written at 10pm is a job that might go to someone else. VC Build Co needed customers to be able to book and pay without him touching it — and to trust a tradie they'd never met enough to pay upfront.
The booking logic wasn't simple. Fixed hour blocks with a two-hour minimum. Payment in full at booking, no cancellations, but free rescheduling with 24 hours' notice via a self-serve link. Bigger jobs, renovations and regional trips had to route to a quote instead of online booking. And the brand had to carry the personality of the bloke turning up — direct, honest, no nonsense.

Build the brand around the builder. Then make booking the easy option.
Brand the business, not a logo
Identity, tone and copy built around who's actually turning up: twenty years on commercial sites, fixed prices, turns up when he says he will. Plain-spoken Australian voice from the headline to the FAQ.
Design the site to sell the whole list
A homepage that names the jobs people actually have — sticky doors, rotten decks, that thing since Christmas — and sells the half-day block as the obvious choice over three separate tradies.
Build the custom booking engine
A four-step React flow: choose 2, 4, 6 or 8 hours, pick a day and start time, describe the list, pay. Availability managed by the business, confirmation and on-approach texts automated.
Wire in Stripe and the booking rules
Full payment at booking through Stripe, no-refund policy with free rescheduling via a Manage Booking link, and routing that sends over-8-hour, renovation and regional jobs to the free quote form instead.
Cover the whole state properly
A service-areas system with region tabs, suburb checker and regional run scheduling, plus a photo-first quote form so most jobs are priced without a site visit.
